CAPTURE THE MOMENTS
After being nominated by MIX to apply for City University of Hong Kong(CityU), they will send an email with detailed instructions for the CityU application process. The three main things are the online application, study visa application, and housing application. Once those are completed, MIX requires to hand in a hard copy of these documents to be sent to the university to help process your study visa.

One of the first decisions in studying abroad is deciding on what country and university you wish to attend. First of all, take a look at the list of partnered schools with UH Manoa and ask any study abroad advisor for some advice for what might suit you best. Some of the things to consider is location, class offerings, and which semester to study abroad in.
UH Manoa has two different programs for study abroad: MIX and Study Abroad Center
Applying for MIX(Manoa International Exchange): I decided to apply for MIX because of the availability and flexibility of choices I could make throughout the process. Note, that there is a priority deadline on February 1st for Summer and Fall and May 1st for Spring semester. The application is fairly short and simple as it asks for basic contact information and a few essay questions. It is also asks to list your top 5 preferred schools so you should do some research on your choices. If you have any questions about study abroad it is best to ask Vinnie Burns from the MIX office or Rikki Mitsunaga at the College's Office of Student Academic Services(OSAS) as they are great resources for information. After you submit your MIX application, you will receive emails from MIX with details to follow until your destined departure. During that time, you will have to attend a mandatory study abroad advising session and also receive another email from your selected university with their application to for acceptance into the university. Dear Mr. Freeman and Freeman Foundation,
I would like to sincerely thank you for continually supporting Shidler students to explore Asia. I am deeply grateful for being a recipient of the Freeman Scholarship for the upcoming Fall 2017 semester. Because of your generosity, I will be able to continue my studies while abroad in Hong Kong at City University of Hong Kong. I would like to briefly introduce myself and why I have chosen to study in Hong Kong. My name is Henry Huang and I am an upcoming junior at the Shidler College of Business. Although I have traveled to China in the past to visit family, this opportunity to study abroad in Hong Kong seems so unfamiliar and exciting. I opted to study in Hong Kong to gain a better understanding of my culture and challenge myself in a new environment. Living in a busy city like Hong Kong, I hope to expand my worldview and overcome any obstacle that I may encounter. It is only through your generosity that I am able to have this once in a lifetime experience. So once again, I want to extend my sincerest gratitude towards the Freeman Foundation and their support. I look forward to sharing my travels and excitement with you in the upcoming months! |
